Mr. Stanley Dean Hanlon, 92, of Ellijay, died Sunday, March 27, 2022.
He was born July 27, 1929, in Greencastle, Ind., to the late Glenn and Mabel Hanlon.
He served honorably in the United States Army as a deep sea diver during the Korean War.
He was well-known for his music and was often called a local legend and was loved and highly respected by many musicians in Ellijay, as well as Indiana.
He is preceded in death by wife, Alma Jean Hanlon; son, Terry Glenn Hanlon; and grandson, Ryan Lloyd Hanlon.
He is survived by children, Travis and Rachelle Hanlon, of Clayton, Myra and Ron Daniels, of Daytona Beach, Fla., Janet and Danny Turner, of Abbeville, S.C., Jimmy and Susan Bennington, of Crawfordsville, Ind., Darren and Donna Bennington, of Gainesville, Melody and Teddy Nichols, of Ellijay; grandchildren, Jamie and Celeste Stewart, Michelle Muenchow, Tanya and Blake Richards, Heath and Michelle Hanlon, Joshua Bennington and Jessica Gordon, Alicia and Cassie Turner, Jacob and Mary M. Turner, Shiloh and Sammy Evans, Tori Maxwell, Shelbi Bennington, Morgan Bennington, Abby Merck, and Isabell Merck; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2022, with the North Georgia Honor Guard officiating.
