The Rev. Terrell Clay Towns, 66, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, surrounded by his wife and children.

He was the faithful and loving husband to Ginger, his bride of 47 years. He was the proud father to four beautiful daughters, one amazing son and three sons-in-love, Nicki Towns, Jessica and Michael Cohee, Brittany and Colby Toops, Matthew Towns, Hannah and Josh Stokes, grandsons Landon Williams, Easton Cohee, Barrett Toops, Liam Stokes, Rowen Toops and granddaughters, Adalyn Cohee, Ellie Stokes were his pride and joy.

He was born in Haines City, Fla., Oct. 23, 1955, to Grady and Jewel Towns. He was the youngest of eight children.

He graduated from Auburndale Senior High in 1974 and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly served for four years and was awarded Soldier of the Year while serving in South Korea.

He gave his life to Christ Feb. 1, 1979, and dedicated his life to the ministry. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biblical studies from the Baptist College of Florida in Graceville. He pastored over 40 years before retiring in 2014.

He was a lifelong Miami Dolphins fan and enjoyed watching football with his family and friends. He wanted to be where the party was and loved entertaining guests. Camping, boating and sitting by the fire in his backyard with his wife were some of his favorite pastimes.

His love for evangelism and people will be his legacy. God is good all the time and all the time God is good.

A celebration of life was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Ellijay.

Interment will be held at a later date at the Georgia National Cemetery.
