Mr. Ralph Gary Miner, 78, of Ellijay, died Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

He was born April 10, 1943, to the late Theodore and Gertrude Card Miner in Elmira, N.Y.

He is the last of his military family from the Revolutionary War, Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Honduran Conflict and Desert Storm.

Ralph’s grandfather was Dermont Miner, the first golf pro in the United States, who ran golf courses from Elizabethtown, N.Y. to DeLand, Fla., with Ralph’s father Ted and Ralph, and his uncle ran the Newburn Golf Course. He is the great-grandson of Martin B. Davis, a drummer boy during the Civil War.

He was a kind and generous man. He loved to fish, go to flea markets and do crossword puzzles.

He was a staff sergeant in the United States Army and served his country in the Korean War and Desert Storm War. He was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

He is survived by wife, Brenda Miner; sons, Todd Miner, John Howe, and James Howe; daughters, Sherri Hall, Stefannie Lyon, Julie Miner, and Kimberle Vang; half-brother, Howard Weberg (Lana Sparling Weberg); four grandchildren Benjamin, Madison, Jacob, and Leah.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2022, from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Sonnija Owens officiating.

Military rites were conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

Interment will be in the Georgia National Cemetery Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 11 a.m. with military rites by the U.S. Army.
