Ms. Ruby Lee Rackley Black Owens, 82, of Chatsworth, departed this life Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, at her home.

Momma, (Mamaw Ruby, Miss Ruby, Ruby Lee, the little lady with a hat), grew up at Ridgeway Boat Ramp, where dirt meets the pavement. She would wake up with snow on her blanket with five other kids in bed. She had newspaper on the walls to keep the cold out, but she was always loved.

She grew up to raise four children by herself, after becoming a widow. She was a strong opinionated, loving momma, an independent woman before her time. She drove hysters in the 70s. She sold her biscuits at work so we would have lunch and spending money. We will miss her biscuits and chicken and dumplings. She loved jokes, laughing and being happy. Momma loved to talk to anyone. She never missed a birthday call to sing happy birthday to us, because each of our “Birth Day” was her happiest days.

Our Angel Momma is gone from Earth, but she left a lot here in happy memories and love for all. We love you Momma. P.S. We’ll watch out for bears and snakes.

She was born Dec. 14, 1938, in Ellijay, to the late John William Rackley and Clomie Vilinda Townsend.

She is preceded in death by husband, Troy Black; stepsons, Houston Owens, Leroy Black; daughters, Mary Walker, Mildred Black, Shelby Sullivan, Barbara Black; stepmother, Elsie Rackley.

She is survived by children, Boyd and Deb Black, Bryan and Lisa Black, of Chatsworth, Maranda Clayborn and her daughter, Peyton Clayborn with her father Michael, of Ringgold, Sandra and Vince Silvers, of Chatsworth; stepsons, Mark and Angie Owens, Anthony Owens, of Dalton; brothers, JD Burchfield, Ronald Rackley, of Dalton, Michael Rackley, of Arizona; sisters, Rhonda Davis and Rita Maeger, of Dalton; grandchildren, John, Joe, Marissa, Heath, Jason, Nathan, Tiffany, Jerome, Wesley, Rebecca, Damon, Trista, Joseph, Memorie, Zach, Justin, Shasta, Haley; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
