Mrs. Sandra Jane West, 83, of McDonough, passed away with her family at her side, Friday, Sept. 10, 2021.
She was born in Diamond, just outside of Ellijay, to the late Joseph R. Newberry and Gladys Marie Newberry.
She is survived by husband, Henry Hoke West; sons, Kenneth (Mona) West, Glenn (Karen) West; grandsons, Joe and Cam West; sister, Shirley (Johnny) Sluder; and brother, Joseph “Mickey” (Sharon) Newberry.
She graduated from Gilmer County High School, then proceeded on to North Georgia College for two years. Afterward she enrolled at the University of Georgia where she met her husband, Hoke, and was the vice president of her senior class.
After college she worked for the U.S. Extension Service in Cartersville. She retired from the Henry County School System where she expressed her love for teaching children. In retirement, she enjoyed gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and being a member of Salem Baptist Church in McDonough.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, in the East Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Georgia Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.
