Mrs. Mary Alice Ray Thornton

Mrs. Mary Alice Ray Thornton, 76, of Elizabethton, Tenn., died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021.

She was born in Gilmer County Aug. 16, 1945, to the late Fred William Ray and Edith Bradburn. She was a housewife and was of the Baptist faith.

She is preceded in death by sister, Betty Pinson; and brother, Charles Ray.

She is survived by husband, Wesley Thornton; son, John Thornton; daughter, Gina Ponce; brothers, Billy Ray and Roger Ray; sisters, Kathy Smith, Anita LeBlanc and Vicki Maddox; grandchildren, Ronald Castillo, Zachariah Thornton, Thomas Thornton, Emily Thornton, William Thornton and Taylor Dilks; and great-grandchildren, Ava Castillo, Ryman Castillo, Madelin Thornton and Miyah Thornton.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021, from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. David Nicholson officiating.

Interment was in the Sunlight Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ronald Castillo, Josh Bennett, William Thornton, Nolan Webster, Emily Thornton and Taylor Dilks.

Honorary pallbearers were Zachariah Thornton and Thomas Thornton.
