Mrs. Brenda Willis Cagle, 78, of Columbus, N.C., passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021.
She is preceded in death by husband, the Rev. Robert (Bob) Grady Cagle; parents, Homer Henry (Hoke) Willis and Ruby Harper; and sisters, Shirlee Evans and Jane Neece.
She is survived by son, Hoke Suttle Cagle (Kimmee); niece, Dawn (Paul) Greenberg; nephews, Walter (Suzanne) Evans and Shawn Neece; sister-in-law, Brenda (Mark) Petersen; brothers-in-law, Earl (Marguerite) Cagle Sr. and Ron (Lynn) Cagle.
She was a graduate of Gilmer High School and the University of Kentucky Nursing School in Lexington, Ky., while Bob attended Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky. After college they returned to Georgia, serving in the North Georgia Conference of the Methodist Church.
In 1977, they accepted positions at Suttle Lake Camp, a year-round facility in the Cascade Range of Oregon.
In 1979, Bob became national director of Junior and Outdoor Recreation of the United Methodist Church in Nashville, Tenn. They returned to Georgia bringing with them infant son Hoke, named for his grandfather.
They served several charges and in 1991, Bob became director/manager of Camp Glisson in Dahlonega. Their ministry at Glisson became a benchmark for the camp.
On April 21, 1997, Bob met with a tragic accident. Brenda was the high school sweetheart that became the wife, made the home and bore the child.
She supported their ministry at Bob’s side, providing love, comfort and encouragement; making ends meet and often going the extra mile. She will be missed but not forgotten.
The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
