Mr. Michael Gene Hogan, 67, of Ellijay, passed away peacefully Saturday May 16, 2020, at his home with his family by his side.

He was the son of Virgil Luther and Doretta Maney Hogan who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by daughter, Diannah Lynn Hogan, June 5, 1994.

He was a God-fearing man who loved his family and they always brought joy to his heart. He was kind and gentle to all.  He served his county proudly in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and was one of the last people to be drafted from Gilmer County. He attended the Church of God and was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by wife, Shirley Cantrell Hogan; daughters and spouses, Media and Les Bragg, Holly and Daniel Whitacre, all of Ellijay, Jennifer and Johnathon Sosebee, of Eton; grandchildren, Johnathon Douglas Zeigler, David Hosier, Ashley Dover, Buck Dover and Dinah Bragg; great-grandchildren, Kahlilah Miracle, Rain Zeigler, Cadence, Brittlyn, Breeze Zeigler, Layton Ellie Dover, Weston Michael Zeigler and two other great-grandchildren in Eton; sisters, Beatrice Callahan, Teresa Clayton and Pamela Hogan.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Junior Maney and the Rev. Shane Dugan officiating.  

Pallbearers were Les Bragg, Daniel Whitacre, Johnathon Zeigler, Michael Whitacre, Buck Dover and Johnny Cantrell. 

Interment was in the Jesus Church Cemetery on Big Creek Road.
