Mrs. Martha Lucille Clayton Stanley, 103, of Ellijay, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023.

She was born Dec. 17, 1919, in Gilmer County, to the late Arc  “A.H.” Clayton and Louise Spriggs Clayton.

She was a member of  Pisgah Church of Christ and loved spreading the gospel everywhere she went. She bought pamphlets with her own money and enjoyed handing them out to people.  She loved being with her grandchildren and singing.

She is preceded in death by husband, Arvil Stanley; daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jo and Charles Marshall; son and daughter-in-law, Doyle (Joy) Stanley; infant son, Jerald Stanley; son-in-law, Jimmy Hendrex; and grandson, David Ringhoffer.

She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, David (Betty) Stanley and Jack Stanley, all of Ellijay; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon (Wally) Colburn, of Wetumpka, Ala.; Peggy (Larry) Benedict, of Crossville, Tenn.; Judy (John) Debuarno, of Argentina; Frances Hendrex, of Ellijay, and Cynthia (John) Ringhoffer, of Chatsworth; and numerous grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grankids; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023, from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Minister Butch Jones officiating.

Interment was in the Pisgah Church of Christ Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandkids Zane Stanley, Clayton Stanley, Kenny Marshall, Danny Marshall, Ronnie Marshall, Jamie Lloyd and Joey Stanley.
