Kathy Jane Odom Spivey, 63, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Vero Beach, Fla., Aug. 1, 1958. In 1966, she moved with her mother and siblings from Slidell, La., to Ellijay, to be closer to her aunt.

With three older brothers, she learned to cook at a young age. She always had a servant’s heart, especially when it came to family. At age 15, she met her Prince Charming, William Spivey. These two quickly fell in love and were married for 47 years. They didn’t move far from her homestead, deciding to establish their own roots on acreage from William’s father.

In 1976, their son Christopher was born, followed by son, Jamie, two years later. Life was never boring at the Spivey home with boys and Kathy loved to tell stories about their childhood: tadpoles in the freezer, broken windows, missing reptiles in their home and all the dirt and grime you can imagine.

Her boys were her pride and joy. This love was also poured into her two grandchildren, Anna (8) and Luke (6).

Grammy would (and did) do anything for these two.

Kathy and William attended Nine Mile United Methodist Church. They sang together in the choir and have been active members for many years. Kathy loved Disney World.

Over the span of their marriage, they took 14 trips, most recently in September 2021 to celebrate Luke’s sixth birthday.

She worked at Royston in Jasper for 33 years. She was proud of her work and was looking forward to a well-earned retirement.

She is preceded in death by father, Daniel William Odom; and brother, David Odom.

She is survived by husband, William Spivey; sons and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Stephanie Spivey, of Tucker, Jamie Spivey and fiancé, Margaret Osborne, of Ellijay; grandchildren, Anna and Luke Spivey; mother, Naomi Coleman Odom, of Ellijay; sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth Killian, of Chatsworth, Denise and David Hammontree, of Jasper; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Becky Shaw, Billy and Jennifer Odom and Dale Odom, all of Ellijay.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at Nine Mile United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the National Breast Cancer Foundation or the Nine Mile UMC Cemetery Fund.
