Johnny H. Oliver Sr.

Johnny H. Oliver Sr., 85, of Jefferson, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020. 

He was born July 3, 1935. He received his education at Gilmer County High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean conflict. He retired from General Motors assembly plant in Doraville, after 25 years and was a member of the U.A.W. Local 10. 

He was a member of Gravel Springs Baptist Church in Buford, and attended Pond Fork Baptist Church in Jefferson.

He is preceded in death by parents, Ruel and Ethel Oliver; brother, Eugene Oliver; and sister-in-law, Omie Oliver. 

He is survived by wife of 57 years, Jean Horton Oliver, of Jefferson; children, Cindy and Mark Halloran, of Eatonton, John and Hope Oliver, of Jefferson; grandchildren, Holly Parker, of Chesapeake, Va., Anita and Ben Denard, of Commerce, Hannah and Dustin Sloan, of Auburn, John Oliver III, of Jefferson; great-grandchildren, Olivia Parker, of Chesapeake, Va., Ridge Sloan, of Auburn; brother, James Eulis and Della Oliver, of Buford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020, in the chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Knight and the Rev. Winfred Martin officiating.

Interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020.
