James Walter ‘Wally’ Smith

Mr. James Walter “Wally” Smith, 75, died Wednesday, July 13, 2022.

He was born Feb. 6, 1947, in Whitfield County, to the late Homer Woodrow Smith and Ethel Lee Fortner Smith.

He served in the U.S. Army and spent his career with United Parcel Service. He was a member of Welcome Gap Baptist Church in Sugar Valley.

He is preceded in death by sisters, Johnnie Sellers, Jo Ann Smith, Charlene Smith, Judy Nix and Nellie Smith.

He is survived by wife, Evealine Smith; son, James Hilton Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Chris Mucha; brothers and sisters-in-law, Homer and Ruthie Smith and Martin and Patti Smith; grandchild, Dayton Mucha; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Cecil Townley officiating.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers include Dayton Mucha, Casey Smith, Wallace Anderson, Dennis Ralston, George Ralston and Steve Ralston.

The family would especially like to thank the caregivers, medical and administrative staff for their gracious and loving care.
