Herbert James Griggs

Mr. Herbert James Griggs, 80, of Dalton, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2019. He was born Jan. 12, 1939, to the late Herbert Glen Griggs and Leola Carroll Griggs, of Ellijay.

He is preceded in death by children, Herbert Steve Griggs, Tammie Griggs, Copeland Johnson and Kelly Griggs Plumley; brothers, Gene Griggs, Raymond Griggs and Alden Griggs.

He is survived by wife of 60 years, Joan Brock Griggs;  sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick and Crystal Griggs, of Hope Mills, N.C., and Tony and Wanda Griggs, of Dalton; eight granddaughters; four grandsons; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosa Stickler, of Dalton, Glenda Davis, Bernice Moser and Phyllis Lowe, all of Ellijay; brothers, David Griggs, of Ringgold, Bobby Griggs and Dwight Griggs, both of Ellijay.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, at the chapel of Dalton Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Young and the Rev. Gordon Delashmitt officiating. 

Special speaker was  grandson, T.J. Plumley, of Helena, Mo.

Interment was in Mineral Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Patrick Griggs, Tony Griggs, Dwight Griggs, Melvin Davis, Tim Plumley and Melvin Wasdon.

Dalton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
