Mr. George Hubert Edmondson, 78, of Ellijay, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 10, 1944, in Gilmer County to the late Arthur Edmondson and Georgia Carnes Edmondson.

He proudly served our nation in the United States Army as a parachute rigger in Vietnam. He was a tractor-trailer operator and logger for 40 years and was a member of the Covenant Community Church in Ellijay.

He is preceded in death by brothers, Hoke Rackley, Arthur Edmondson Jr. and Johnny Edmondson; and sister, Darris Turner.

He is survived by wife, Portia Anne Spivey Edmondson; brother, Donnie Edmondson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Geneva (David) Ray, Delane (Dennis) McGuire, Reba Slater and Jane Dillard; children, Shonna (Bobby) Champion, David (Toni) Edmondson, Paula (Carl) Taylor, and Walter Edmondson; stepchildren, Jennifer (Beau) McCollum, Debra (Bill) Drum, Thomas (Donna) Gamel and Rebecca Heffner; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, from Covenant Community Church with pastor, the Rev. Steve Fields, officiating.

Military honors were by the United States Army.
