Mr. Dorsey Baxter Cochran, 89, of Ellijay, passed away peacefully into eternal rest Saturday, March 13, 2021, at his home.
He was born April 4, 1931, in Gordon County, to the late Earl Burt Cochran and Ollie Marchie Johnson Cochran. He was a member of Ellijay First United Methodist Church.
During the early 1950s he provided security for atomic weapons testing in the South Pacific. After exiting the Army in 1954, he was a teacher at Fairmount High School. Later he worked in banking and then corporate credit in the carpet industry. In the late 1970s, he became director of financial services around the world for Shaw Industries. He was a wonderful father and will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by wife, Annie Ruth Wilson Cochran; son, Gregory Baxter Cochran; sister, Dorothy Pauline Cochran; brothers, Donald Bell Cochran and David Earl Cochran.
He is survived by son, Ronald Earl Cochran and wife, Michele; granddaughter, Brittany Paige Cochran Johnson and husband, Michael, all of Ellijay; sister Delia Mae Cochran Haynes and husband, James, of Ranger; brother, Daniel George Cochran and wife, Karen, of Dalton; and a host of nieces and nephews.
