Darrell Andrew ‘Andy’ Key

Mr. Darrell Andrew ‘’Andy’’ Key, 74, of Ellijay, died Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Northside Cherokee Hospital.

He was born in Gilmer County April 27, 1947, to the late Wayne Key and Vesta Starks Key.

He was a retired law enforcement officer and later worked for Piedmont Hospital as a security guard. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

He is survived by wife of 56 years, Sandra Kirby Key; daughter, Cindy McClure (Anthony), of Ellijay; sister, Yvonne Robertson, of Ellijay; grandchild, U.S. Army Ranger, Jacob Levi Dickey (Taylor).

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2022, in the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Banks and the Rev. Alan Davenport officiating.

Interment was in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Honor Guard preforming the flag presentation.

Pallbearers were Edmond Dalrymple, James Aaron, Greg Griggs, Anthony McClure, Jacob Dickey, Eldridge Harper, Anthony Mullinax and Kelly Towe.

Honorary pallbearers were Mark Sanford, Gary Harben, Bobby Long, Carol Daves, Earnest Watkins, Harold Robertson, Larry Callahan and Mike Gobble.

Bernhardt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
