Charles Nesbert Godwin

Charles Nesbert Godwin, 79, of Ellijay, died peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021.

He was born Dec. 4, 1941, to the late Jerry Mose and Dessie Bell Godwin in Tallapoosa. He was married to the late Joan Godwin  Dec. 28, 1965.

He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle who loved to take his family on vacations, hike, fish and spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He  was a great joy to his family and will be very missed.

He is preceded in death by wife, Joan Godwin; parents, Jerry and Dessie Godwin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harvey and Ruby Bell, P.D. and Louise Bell; sisters and brother-in-law, Glenda and James Woody and Linda Smith.

He is survived by brother, Jerry Godwin, of Tallapoosa; brother-in-law, Casey Smith of Tallapoosa, Ala.; daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Kenny Crook of Ellijay; granddaughters and grandsons, Kirsten Marick, Jill Crook Wright (Austin Wright), Kaleb Marick (Kacey Marick), all of Ellijay, Adam Crook, of Worcester, Mass., and Katie Marick, of Ellijay; two great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews .

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18.
