Barbara Jo Pierce Sanford, a retired pharmacy technician and longtime resident of Ellijay, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, at the age of 78, due to complications of COVID-19.
She is survived by son, Scott Sanford; daughters-in-law, Therena Sanford and Terry Randall Sanford; grandson, Elijah Sanford; great-grandchildren, Levi and Kimber Hart; very special niece, Staci McClure; and many other beloved family members.
She is preceded in death by parents Woodrow and Kitty Pierce; brother and sister-in-law, Woody and Mattie Pierce; and granddaughter, Whitney Sanford Hart.
She was a longtime member of Oak Hill Independent Church.
She spent many years volunteering her time with the Lions Club and was recognized often for her contributions and dedication. She was very proud of being part of such a humanitarian organization in her community.
She was a devoted mother and Nana. Her son, grandson and great-grandchildren were the lights of her life.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched.
In light of COVID-19, memorial services will be held at a later date when it is safe to attend.
