Three traffic light outages not related

Over two days, Gilmer County experienced three traffic light outages at major intersections. The traffic light at the intersection of GA 515 and First Avenue went out Sept. 8. It went out again Sept. 9. The traffic light at the intersection of GA 282 and South Main Street went out Sept. 9.

Gilmer first responders receive gifts on 9/11

For first responders, Sept. 11 is an important anniversary. “It brings home the reality that sometimes horrible tragedies can happen, whether it’s something on the level of 9/11 or this weekend when this officer was shot,” Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) Captain Frank Copeland said.

Warm water isn’t only obstacle for improving Gilmer trout fishing

From a trout’s perspective, some Gilmer County streams resemble empty pavement. “If you want to stay there, you can, but you’re going to go,” Dr. Steve Jones, a former Clemson University professor with expertise in ecology and years of river restoration experience said.

Pet Food Pantry in need of support

It’s hard to choose between feeding yourself and feeding your pet, a Gilmer Community Pet Food Pantry volunteer said. But when that choice comes, most people who attend the food pantry would rather let their pet eat, volunteer Mindy Petzer said.

A traffic light went dark at the Highway 515 and First Avenue intersection during morning commute hours. The traffic signal went out at some point before 6:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8. The intersection is one of Gilmer’s busier road connections. At 6:45 a.m.
