Open records flow changes in county

Information flow has changed in Gilmer County, at least who is responsible for filling the requests within the county. Open records requests for Gilmer County will no longer go through County Clerk Edwina Daman, but instead will be the responsibility of each department head.

A Talking Rock resident returned home from errands to find money and possibly drugs in his mailbox. A Gilmer County deputy responded to a non-emergency call Sept. 14, at 11:47 a.m., according to an incident report.

Vineyard Tails and Tiaras event raises funds and awareness for dog adoptions

It’s not every day you see a dog in a tuxedo, but Tails and Tiaras had them in abundance. This event, hosted by Grapes and Ladders Vineyards and Winery, the Gilmer County Animal Shelter (GCAS) and Ellijay Paws in Need staged a red-carpet competition between dogs from the shelter.

Gilmer County Fire and Rescue has taken delivery of its new ladder truck. Gilmer County commissioners were given a chance to see the truck following a work session Sept. 16. The truck is a Class A pumper, has a 100-foot ladder and can pump 1,500 gallons a minute.

Suspect in officer shooting arrested

A McCaysville police officer continues to improve in a Chattanooga, Tenn., hospital, and the man accused of shooting him is in jail.
