It’s not a construction trailer. It’s a bank on wheels. That’s a brief description of a mobile banking unit that Ellijay United Community Bank (UCB) has been using to serve customers after the bank received extensive water damage during the Christmas weekend deep freeze.

Residents of Rock Creek Road showed up to voice their opinions on bridges and short-term rentals to Gilmer County commissioners. Three residents of the area spoke about two bridges on their road which have been on the county’s list to repair or replace.

Two month investigation nets $24,000 worth of meth

An Ellijay woman was arrested and four kilograms of methamphetamine were seized. “My deputies and drug agents made a dent in the methamphetamine availability in Gilmer County with this investigation,” said Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson.

Night to Shine Prom returning to Cartecay Baptist

A prom for people with special needs will soon be held again at an Ellijay church following a two-year hiatus. Sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation, Night to Shine Proms are normally held in hundreds of churches across the country and abroad each year.

Mobile free clinic now partnering with health department

Volunteers who help staff a mobile health clinic that comes to Gilmer County monthly hope a change in location will increase the number of patients receiving care.

Runoff to decide special election

In the special election for the Georgia State House District 7 race Sheree Ralston won Gilmer County and the election as a whole. She did not avoid a runoff, however, garnering only 45 percent of the vote for the district.

Future of local Toys for Tots drive uncertain

Gilmer County’s 2022 Toys for Tots campaign provided Christmas presents to more children than in any previous year, but the future of the annual U.S. Marines-led toy drive is uncertain due, in part, to how big it’s become.

The East Ellijay City Council welcomed a new councilmember in its first meeting of the year last Wednesday at East Ellijay City Hall.  Chris Callihan became the newest councilmember after being sworn in by Mayor Mack West and having his appointment approved by the rest of the council.
