Project looks at alternate routes

Voices of Boardtown Road residents were heard, and Georgia Transmission Corporation is studying two alternate routes for transmission lines. Originally the project involved the installation of 10 miles of subtransmission line and poles along Boardtown Road.

County’s cabin rentals a booming business despite pandemic, shutdown

The COVID-19 pandemic has not closed the doors on cabin rentals in Gilmer County.  In fact, information provided by the Gilmer Chamber and Board of Commissioners points to the short-stay rentals increasing for 2020 thus far.

Humble, honest and hard working are some of the ways that family and friends are remembering JC Sanford. The former county commissioner and longtime business owner passed away Saturday at the age of 78.

Gilmer Board of Health updated on county’s COVID-19 cases, testing

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Gilmer County has slowed since the most recent spike was seen in July, but cases are still being reported, the director of the North Georgia Health District told members of the Gilmer County Board of Health during a teleconference meeting held Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Drive-thru flu shot clinic scheduled

Getting a flu shot is even more important this year, advised the director of the North Georgia Health District during a meeting of the Gilmer County Board of Health last week. “I would encourage everyone to get an influenza vaccination this year for several reasons,” said Dr. Zachary Taylor.

COVID-19 cancels Gilmer, Fannin game

The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic nixed Gilmer’s home football game against Fannin County last Friday. FCHS reached out around noon Thursday to inform GHS head coach Kevin Saunders that the Rebels’ football team had been exposed to the virus.

Deadline Friday for free, reduced lunch applications

The Gilmer County School System is urging families in need to complete the free and reduced lunch applications this week. A student’s free and reduced status from last school year carries over  30 days into the 2020-2021 school year, which means the deadline for applications  is Friday, Sept. 18.
