FFA students win national honors

Gilmer County is less than 1 percent of America’s population, but 11 of its students won honors at the FFA’s national championship. The FFA is a national organization to prepare youth for careers in agricultural science, business and technology.

Players begin the first round of the Gilmer County Optimist Clubs Charity Mahjong Tournament Monday, Feb. 16. The event was sponsored by a number of local groups. More than 30 players participated in the tournament, with chances to win prizes.

355 home permits granted in Gilmer County

Hundreds of new homes will soon be built in Gilmer County, according to the Planning and Zoning Office. In 2025, the office gave out 355 residential home permits to people hoping to make new homes. The county has seven phases of subdivision projects planned too.
