Gilmer swimmers are set for the state meet.
The Bobcats and Lady Cats were in Habersham June 26 for the Class C District Meet. A top-three finish was needed to qualify for state, and Gilmer was well represented in each age division.
Among 6-8-year-old swimmers, Laken Johnstone claimed a runner-up finish in the 50-yard freestyle (53.71). She helped the 100-yard medley relay team finish second in 1:57.48. Joining Johnstone were Scarlett Edelson, Sadie Mae Rice and Willow Shoilekov. Rice also earned third in the 50-yard free in 58.96.
For 10-under swimmers, Harper Hoover captured Gilmer’s first individual title by winning the 25-yard backstroke in 23.91. Hoover also added a third-place finish in the 50-yard free (42.75). Asher Faulk won the 25-yard butterfly in 24.87, while Malachi White added a top finish in the 25-yard back in 27.33. Boone Wilson was third in the 25-yard breaststroke (35.89).
In the 12-under division, Quin Moore secured a runner-up spot in the 100-yard free with a time of 1:26.53. Ryder Johnstone added a pair of third-place times in the 50-yard free (30.50) and 100-yard individual medley (1:37.19). Kathryn Edelson also claimed third in the 50-yard breast (51.12).
The 200-yard medley relay team of Lucy Duncan, Calissa Shoilekov, Kathryn Edelson and Arah Belle Moore took third with a time of 3:55.50.
For 14-under swimmers, Gilmer’s best performance came in the 200-yard medley relay. Emmett Patterson, Silas Wilson, Ryder Johnstone and Quin Moore combined for a first-place finish in 2:41.49. Kaley Best also took third in the 100-yard individual medley (1:43.28).
In the 18-under age bracket, Gilmer’s mixed 200-yard medley relay team of Best, Reece Smith, Rylee Fountain and Rosalie Ballew captured first in 2:40.59. Best was third in the 100-yard IM (1:43.28).
The state meet will be Friday and Saturday in Moultrie.
