During this time of caution and uncertainty, a few Ellijay families have offered their time and talents to help out where they can.
Nettie Salinas has used her quarantine time to make face masks for those in need.
Nettie, 78, and husband Louis, 82, cautious to venture out during this time have received help from daughter, Melinda Chambers, who has delivered masks to friends, family, neighbors, church members and local workers.
“If I tell her someone needs it, and she has the material, she will give it to them,” Chambers said.
“She wants people to be safe and healthy.”
To date, Nettie has made around 50-60 masks.
Summer Adams and mother, Alma Carillo, have made use of their time to crotchet straps to be used on the back of masks to make them more comfortable to wear.
“Mom and I wanted to help those helping us. We read post after post how the nurses’ ears were raw from mask strings and we noticed the post on how to make them, so we made a few, posted them and started to receive orders!” Adams said.
Adams and her mother have made around 30 straps that they give to family, friends, as well as those in the medical profession.
