Three people sought in connection with the murder of a woman in Cherry Log were arrested in Mexico.
Megan Alyssa Colone, 30, of Stone Mountain, and Oscar Manuel Garcia, 26, of Austell, were arrested along with a third man, Juan Antonio Vega, 25, of Cobb County.
“Great work,” said Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson. “This case, thus far, has been great cooperative police work. It is a very far-reaching case with many tentacles.”
Vega was identified as the fifth suspect authorities were attempting to identify as part of the investigation into the murder of Rossana Delgado. A murder warrant has been taken for him, according to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation press release.
All three suspects were arrested in Mexico in a joint operation of the GBI, working in partnership with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Atlanta, HSI Harlingen, Texas, and Attaché Matamoros, Mexico, the release said.
Two more men, Juan Ayala-Rodriguez, 35, of Gainesville, and Mario Alberto Barbosa-Juarez, 29, of Oklahoma City, Okla., are still being sought on murder warrants.
The investigation began Tuesday, April 20, when the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check at a residence in Cherry Log. GBI agents were called in to assist.
Rossana Delgado, 37, of Bethlehem, was identified as the victim at the scene. She was reported missing Friday, April 16, and was last seen in DeKalb County.
Calvin Harvard, 28, of Covington, was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence and theft by receiving stolen property in connection with the investigation, according to an April 30 press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Vehicles belonging to two of the five suspects, a white Ford F-150 and a white Buick Regal, and the victim’s red Ford Focus were recovered in connection with his arrest.
The three arrested in Mexico will be returned to Gilmer for processing at some point. Sheriff Nicholson said where they will be housed awaiting trial is yet to be determined.
