A free series of outdoor movies will return to Harrison Park beginning Saturday, Aug. 14, with the “classic” version of The Karate Kid.
The movies in the park are open to the public. Pre-movie activities and games will start an hour before sunset, and the movie will begin at dark, said Linda Lancaster, Friends of Harrison Park director.
“The event is free, and we will have some free giveaways for the kids. You can bring your own snacks or purchase popcorn, soft drinks and other inexpensive snacks at the park,” Lancaster added.
Family-friendly films will be shown in August and September, Lancaster said. Moviegoers should bring their own chairs or blankets to sit on.
Other planned selections include How to Train your Dragon: The Hidden World Friday, Aug. 27, and The Croods: A New Age Saturday, Sept. 11. The last entry in the series will be a special date night movie, which has yet to be decided.
The Friends of Harrison Park held their first movie night in 2019, bringing 108 people to the McCutchen Street park in downtown Ellijay.
After the series got off to a good start, the next two scheduled movies got rained out, Lancaster said.
The park friends did not show any outdoor movies last year, she noted.
“This year, we’re hoping to do rain dates on nights following the scheduled dates if we are forced to cancel,” Lancaster said.
