Gallery exhibit opens with reception May 7

The Gilmer Arts Gallery will host a reception Friday, May 7, from 5-7 p.m., that will honor two spectacular artists exhibiting at the gallery this month.

Colleen Sterling will speak on egg tempera and her process in producing her art pieces.

The art of egg tempera painting has been referred to as “the luminous brush.” This is because, if the medium is used properly, it can capitalize on what the Flemish masters called “the light behind the colors.”

Sterling will also be the featured speaker this month at the Gilmer Fine Artists meeting, held the third Monday of the month.

Maria Sarmiento is a passionate, versatile, highly-motivated artist and educator with extensive experience teaching sculpture in Fine Arts and Art Foundations in design universities.

A native of Colombia and resident of Atlanta, her work is inspired by nature and ancient prehistoric and pre-Colombian cultures. It evokes spirituality, as well as a sense of transcendence. See her unique mosaics at SarmientoStudio.com.

Sarimiento will also teach a two-day mosaics class May 13-14. You will leave with a completed heart-shaped garden stake.
