Ellijay man arrested in North Carolina

An Ellijay man listed as a fugitive in a GBI press release about a large methamphetamine bust was arrested and charged in Cherokee County, North Carolina.

Tracy Ev Shirley, 47, of Ellijay, was charged on June 29 with conspiring to traffic methamphetamine, possess methamphetamine, maintain place controlled substance, resisting public officer, injury to real property, extradition/fugitive other state, and conspiring to traffic methamphetamine. A fugitive from other state charge was added on June 30, according to the Cherokee County (N.C.)  Sheriff’s Office website.

Shirley appeared on a list of 34 people being charged with violation of the Georgia Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act in Pickens County as part of
“Operation The Real McCoy,” by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on June 24.

Following a nine-month investigation, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Cherokee (Ga.) Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad and Homeland Security Investigations served 47 arrest warrants for charges including gang and drug related activity. 

No information was available if the North Carolina charges were related to the Georgia investigation.

He is being held in North Carolina on a $275,000 secured bond, according to the Cherokee County (N.C.)  Sheriff’s Office website.
