Fireworks display will cap off evening
Following a year in which almost any public event was canceled, full Fourth of July festivities will return to downtown Ellijay this Independence Day.
July 4 falls on a Sunday this year, and that is when the parade and city-sponsored fireworks display will be held, confirmed Pam Burns, chairperson for parade organizers, the Downtown Ellijay Business and Community Association (DEBCA).
The parade will remain an evening event, getting underway at 6 p.m. Participants will begin lining up on Sailors Drive at 4 p.m. The parade will wind down River Street and around the roundabout before continuing along North Main Street toward Ellijay Elementary School.
Applications to be in the parade can be found at the Gilmer Arts Gallery at 207 Dalton Street. Burns said the application form will also be made available online at the Downtown Ellijay Facebook page. The participation fee is $35. Floats, cars, walking units, musical units and animals are needed.
The deadline for submitting parade applications is Wednesday, June 30. Applications turned in past the deadline won’t be accepted.
An array of vendors will be set up in the River Street parking lot around noon on the Fourth, and DJs will provide music during the early afternoon.
The downtown fireworks display will start a little bit after dark on the night of July 4, confirmed Mayor Al Hoyle.
As has been done at past Independence Day celebrations, fireworks will be launched from the campus of Ellijay Elementary School.
