A relatively new pedestrian crossing signal at the intersection of Highway 52/River Street and First Avenue was the victim of a vehicular accident that occurred early last Friday morning. East Ellijay Police Chief Larry Callahan said Georgia State Patrol worked the accident in which a vehicle ran up onto the concrete island. The crossing signals were put in at the heavily-traveled intersection a little over a year ago as part of traffic signal upgrades by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). Callahan said GDOT has been contacted about the downed signal.
