The Friends of Harrison Park announce the first Chili Challenge, to be held Saturday, Oct. 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Harrison Park in downtown Ellijay.

The event will feature  kids’ games, rock painting with Ellijay Rocks, live music, water, soft drinks and beer by the Cartecay River Brewing Company to quench your thirst between chili tastings.

Civic organizations, businesses, churches, school groups, neighborhoods and individuals are all invited to enter the competition.

Winners will be selected in the following categories:

﹣ Taster’s Choice — based on the most votes cast by ballot during the event.

Categories selected by our panel of celebrity judges, Karlene Ferguson, Damon Gabriel and Kent Sanford, will include:

﹣ Bless Your Heart (classic and mild)

﹣ 5 Alarm (tasty and HOT!)

﹣ Surprise! (unexpected look or style)

﹣ WTHIT (What the heck’s in that?! Secret ingredients that defy identification)

﹣ Better Than Mom’s (exceptional example of traditional southern chili).

Judging will take place at 10:45 a.m. prior to opening the event to the public.

See ad on page 10A. For details or application to enter, email harrisonparkevents@gmail.com.
