A vintage aircraft event the Gilmer Chamber had planned for take-off this weekend will circle back around next spring.
The inaugural Georgia Mountain Warbird Weekend was scheduled to feature a ticketed dinner gala Friday, Aug. 20, and a family fun day Saturday, Aug. 21, both at the Gilmer County Airport.
Due to the rising number of new COVID-19 cases in the county and staff exposure, both events have been postponed, according to the chamber.
New dates are Friday, April 15, 2022, for the dinner gala and Saturday, April 16, 2022, for the family fun day confirmed Jennifer Grimmer, Gilmer Chamber president.
“We want to let people know (about the new dates). It’s going to be fun, and we’ve put so much into it,” Grimmer added.
The airport family fun day will offer up-close looks at vintage World War II aircraft, which will be brought to the local airport by the Georgia Commemorative Air Force of Peachtree City. The gala is a sit-down dinner at the airport hanger with live music and planes on display.
Grimmer emphasized that the two events have not been canceled, just postponed.
“Everything (will be) the same. The same planes, the same band and food. It’s just been moved to April. Everything promised will be delivered and, even better, in cooler weather,” she added.
Grimmer said dinner gala ticketholders have already been notified about the rescheduling, and any advance tickets that were purchased for that event can be used for the April date. The family fun day was not an advance ticketed event, she noted. “You just show up, pay $5 and have a good time,” Grimmer said.
The chamber office, located in East Ellijay at 696 First Avenue, will be temporarily closed to the public until Monday, Aug. 23.
A post on its Facebook page said chamber staff will be working from home and can be contacted by email during regular business hours.
