A Cartersville man was arrested in the early morning hours in Gilmer County and charged with multiple sexual offenses.
Joseph Franklin Summerall Jr., 22, was charged with felony aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery, contributing to the delinquency, unruliness or deprivation of a minor, criminal attempt, electronically furnishing obscene materials to a minor, enticing a child for indecent purposes, public indecency and sexual battery.
Gilmer County Sheriff Deputy Kurtis Parks was patrolling at 3 a.m. Jan. 18, on Hwy. 382 near Eagle Mountain Drive when he spotted a vehicle, according to an incident report.
The car was parked in a gravel area with the back dome light on and the windows were fogged.
Parks called for a second deputy. The two deputies approached the vehicle and knocked on the back driver’s door.
Summerall rolled down the window and complied with officers when they asked for his identification.
A female was also in the vehicle. Initially she told deputies she was 18 years of age. She was also asked for identification.
Summerall told officers he met the woman online and they had agreed to hang out.
When Parks asked the woman for a birth date, he discovered she was 13 years of age.
Summerall was arrested and the case was turned over to investigators.
He is still being held in the Gilmer County Jail.
