Body

The annual Apple Festival Parade will be held in downtown Ellijay Saturday, Oct. 19.

Applications are required to participate in the parade. They can be downloaded from GeorgiaAppleFestival.org or picked up at the Gilmer Chamber office.Deadline to return applications is Friday, Oct. 18.

Check-in begins at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, and floats must be lined up by 9 a.m. to be eligible for judging. Judging will take place between 9 and 9:45 a.m. Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place floats (only floats will be judged). Judging will be based on originality, costume/dress, appearance and theme.

This year’s parade theme is #ThisIsEllijay — floats and entries should represent something iconic or quintessentially Gilmer County.

The parade will begin promptly at 10 a.m.

The route will be as follows: Left from Sailors Dr. to River St., clockwise around the roundabout, left on N. Main St. to McCutchen St. to end at Ellijay Elementary School.

Throwing candy or any hard objects from moving vehicles is not permitted for safety reasons. However, candy can be distributed by hand along the parade route. This will be strictly enforced this year.

All entries must be family friendly. Vehicles that are not street legal (golf carts, go-carts, dirt bikes, etc.) will NOT be allowed to return to the start of the parade route. Trailer or transport must be dropped at McCutchen Street prior to the parade.

No one will be allowed to participate in the parade if an application has not been received prior to the day of the parade.
