Amateur pool qualifier coming to East Ellijay

(By APA) — Three local American Poolplayers Association members will have the opportunity to qualify for the Junior Championships.

These junior players will be joining others from all over the country to compete in this event in one of three Skill Level Tiers. The annual event encourages and inspires young people to get involved in pool.

To determine which three players will compete in St. Louis, a local tournament will be held among the top-eight league players at East Ellijay Pool Room May 1 at 2 p.m.

“Our Juniors are excited about this opportunity,” said Charli McAllister, APA league operator.

The format for the events will be modified single elimination 9-Ball and will be played on 7-foot tables. Prizes and trophies will be awarded to champions and runners-up in each of the four Skill Level Tiers.

The APA Junior Championships will be held at the Renaissance St. Louis Airport Hotel in St. Louis, Mo., July 7-10.

The APA is the world’s largest amateur pool league, and nearly 250,000 members compete in weekly 8-Ball and 9-Ball League play across the U.S. and Canada.

The APA produces four major tournaments each year and include the APA World Pool Championships, the APA Poolplayer Championships, the APA Junior Championships and the U.S. Amateur Championship — that, together, pay out nearly $2 million in cash and prizes annually.
