Gilmer kids experience snow for first time
Adults often see only cold, inconvenience, delay and danger when snow falls in the mountains.
But kids can see a world of beauty.
“It’s an amazing experience when they’re that little,” local father Austin Davis said. “You’re leading them on to everything that’s new to them. And they always associate those experiences with their parents.
The snowstorm on Saturday, Jan. 31 was the perfect chance for Austin Davis to introduce his 17-month-old son, Tate Davis, to snow.
This winter was his first time seeing snow.
To celebrate the weather, Austin Davis took his son out to experience it. He dressed Tate up in warm snow clothes, and they went outside.
“He just wanted to run around in it,” he said. “I took him outside in the snow and he just wanted to run around in it. It was all fun and games until he fell and he felt the coldness on his hands.”
Austin Davis remembers his son shaking his hands trying to get the snow off.
The adventure had its fun parts too. He pulled his son around on a boogie board.
“That got a smile,” he said.
Even if Tate Davis doesn’t talk much yet, it was clear he loved the snow adventure with his father.
“I cherish every moment of it,” Austin Davis said.
