An Ellijay woman was arrested and four kilograms of methamphetamine were seized.
“My deputies and drug agents made a dent in the methamphetamine availability in Gilmer County with this investigation,” said Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson.
Ashley Jane Turner, 42, of Ellijay, was charged with illegal possession of controlled substance, trafficking in methamphetamine.
The arrest was the result of a two month investigation by the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office and agents of the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office, according to a press release from the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office.
Street value of the methamphetamine seized was estimated at $24,000, the release said. It alleges Turner was distributing the drugs to “multiple individuals in Gilmer, Pickens, Cherokee, Dawson, Murray, and into the state of Tennessee.”
“It’s not absolute nor is it a permanent dent, but it certainly sends this message to drug dealers in north Georgia, ‘we are here, and we are coming soon to a drug bust near you!’” Nicholson said.
“This was a great collaborative effort by several agencies, and I thank them all for their assistance.”
Agents of the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad, along with Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, Fannin County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force assisted in aspects of the case, according to the release.
