A sixth grader was removed from school for possession of a toy gun at Clear Creek Middle
School.
“A student came to school with a toy pistol, some other students saw it and reported it,” said Gilmer County Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Ridley.
The incident occurred Monday morning, Nov. 11.
“We hand anything like that over to law enforcement,” Dr. Ridley said.
Gilmer County Sheriff Captain Frank Copeland said the student will be charged as a juvenile.
The student is also being referred for a disciplinary hearing within the school system which normally results in expulsion.
“We’re at a point in time where we can’t take any chances,” Ridley said. “We take it seriously, and we hope our parents do as well.”
