The Times-Courier, the newspaper of record for Gilmer County, is staying put in downtown Ellijay.
The local newspaper will have the exact same entrance it has used for many years. However, since the Times-Courier no longer needed all of the available space, the building at 47 River St. has been sold to Luke and Rebecca Colwell of Colwell Construction Co., who will rent out the other half at 41 River St.
“We are excited to be part of this vibrant downtown community and to work alongside other local businesses,” Colwell said.
Readers should not notice any changes, and the transition should be smooth. Associates have been cleaning out the building and moving things to one side over the last few weeks.
“We’re thrilled to be able to remain a downtown fixture, while also making space available for another local business,” said Regional Publisher David Brown, who oversees the Times-Courier. “This is a great time to be in Gilmer County.”
The Times-Courier was
established in 1875 and consolidated in 1916. Community Newspapers Inc. purchased the Times-Courier in 2015 from the Bunch family, who owned the local newspaper since 1967.
