The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) is now smartphone compatible.
A new app for the sheriff’s office is available for Apple and Google devices, the county law enforcement agency announced last week.
Created by app developer OCV and TheSheriffApp.com, which specializes in mobile app development for public safety organizations nationwide, the app offers quick access to items of public interest including announcements that were previously only accessible on the GCSO Facebook page.
Its features include “be on the lookout” warnings, traffic accident and hazard updates, an inmate search option, a sex offender database and a submit a tip option.
“For several years, we have utilized social media to get information out to the public. The app will further advance this,” said Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson. “Our goal is to always provide our citizens with up-to-date information in emergency situations or travel diversions. For example, we can now put urgent alerts and warnings out, and they will be received as a push alert rather than it just appearing on Facebook.”
“We are seeing more and more counties adding this app. I’m happy we were able to make it happen for Gilmer County,” said Melissa Waddell, GCSO social media manager.
The free app is now available to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play by searching “Gilmer County Sheriff, GA.” Download links are also online at Apps.MyOCV.com/share/a95930540.
