One man died and another suffered injuries from cutting trees in the Conasauga Road area last week. Somehow, a tree came down on the two individuals, said Gilmer EMS Chief Andrew Burnette.
Eduardo Santillan, 26, was airlifted by helicopter, according to Gilmer County Coroner Jerry Hensley. The helicopter was headed to Kennestone Hospital, but Santillan died before it reached the hospital, he added.
Another man who suffered injuries was airlifted to a different hospital, but his name was not provided, Hensley noted.
Keith Kucera, public safety director, said an extensive extraction was involved, and chain saws had to be used to reach the men who were in a “hard to get to area.”
Gilmer Public Safety did not release further information, citing HIPAA guidelines.
A representative from the Gilmer Sheriff’s Office said the sheriff’s office did not respond to the incident, and a police report wasn’t available.
