I am Thomas Ocobock, and I am running for Mayor of East Ellijay.
With my wife, Melissa (Missy) Keener-Ocobock, and our boys, Ryan and Peyton, we are blessed to be a multigenerational East Ellijay family. My father-in-law, Fred, served proudly on the East Ellijay City Council prior to his death.
I am a Combat Marine Disabled Veteran, having also served in the National Guard and Air Force Auxiliary. I have worked as a civilian contractor with Pax River in Maryland and Fort Benning in Columbus.
I have served on the Gilmer County School Board and, along with the other members, we were instrumental in getting the school security systems funded and installed. Along with having substantial input into the GHS renovation and the current Clear Creek Elementary School, I have also supported the recreation department as a coach for the past 10+ years.
I am running to keep our current residential “small-town feel,” while moving us into the 21st century. I look to keep: no city taxes, continue with trash pickup and assist the elderly and widowed in our community.
I also would address the traffic intersection at Highway 515-First Avenue and look to improve the existing telecom system, while addressing upcoming building projects near the Highland Crossing area. A longtime goal would be to focus on new revenue streams into the city.
I believe in and fully support the city’s police force. As mayor, I will ensure the department has all the tools and resources necessary to keep our city and residents safe and secure in the rapidly changing times.
My family is thankful to be living in the same home Missy grew up in. We are dedicated to serving the community we love and are raising our boys in. I look forward to the opportunity to serve my hometown.
