Gilmer EMS helped find his body
After efforts from a combined group of EMS personnel and experts, Gilmer County Fire Rescue (GCFR) recovered the body of a missing fisherman.
The body was found in the Devil’s Elbow area of Amicalola Creek.
“This is never the outcome any of us hope for, but we take some comfort in knowing that we were able to help return a loved one to their family,” a press release from GCFR said.
GCFR didn’t mention the victim’s name.
The GCFR’s Special Operations Unit joined Dawson County Fire in searching Wednesday, March 4.
They deployed their swift water technicians, technical divers, rope technicians.
Personnel from Forsyth County, including divers, also helped with the search.
“These were highly technical dives due to the strong current in the area,” the press release read.
On Thursday, March 5, personnel from the Johns Creek Fire Department and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources joined the effort.
With sonar, the searchers found the missing fisherman.
Gilmer divers then recovered the body.
“Along with everyone involved in this operation, our hearts go out to the family during this difficult time,” the GCFR’s press release said.
