A jury found a Gilmer County man guilty of murder, and he was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Joshua Robert Weaver, 40, of Ellijay, was charged with murder and aggravated assault in the death of his uncle.
On April 22, 2022, another relative found Crate Hollis Weaver, 65, dead in the yard of a residence on Roy Road at 11:49 a.m. and called 911, according to a press release from the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office. The body had extensive visible injuries.
At the time, Captain Frank Copeland of the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office said Weaver was in custody within minutes and charged within the hour.
Weaver was found guilty of malice murder and sentenced to life without parole. In addition, he was found guilty of three counts of aggravated assault family violence and one count of aggravated battery family violence and given two additional 20-year sentences which will run concurrently. The sentence was entered July 27.
