A man who drowned in Allatoona Lake was identified as a Talking Rock resident.
Charles Matthews, 37, was swimming in the lake when a witness on the shore saw him in distress, according to a Georgia Department of Natural Resources incident report.
The witness said Matthews went under the water at 10:30 a.m., April 29, and never resurfaced.
Authorities were called to the scene and began searching near Old 41 Campground and the I-75 bridge.
Matthews body was recovered in 9 feet of water using side scan sonar at 12:48 p.m., according to the report. Water temperature at the time was 66 degrees.
His body was turned over to the Bartow County Coroner’s office. No further information was available.
