Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office, along with the GBI, are invesigating an inmate death which occurred at the courthouse.
“We are limited in what we are allowed to say about an ongoing investigation and specifics of the case,” said Captain Frank Copeland.
The inmate was ordered into custody by the presiding superior court judge June 10, according to a post on the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office app. During a cell check of the holding cells at the courthouse, the subject was found unresponsive, the post read.
It was termed an attempted suicide in the release.
EMS was called and the subject was transported to Kennestone via ambulance.
He was pronounced dead by the hospital June 16.
Copeland said an autopsy will be performed as a matter of procedure.
