Local Authors Forum will display their stories
Whether you’re still a student or have been educating for decades, you can be a Gilmer County author.
Gilmer author Lane Woods is a retired educator and bookseller who has been making up and writing stories since childhood.
Lucas Watson is a 17-year-old student at Gilmer High School, who wrote his first book for a children’s book competition.
Both will discuss her books at the Local Authors Forum, hosted by Friends of the Gilmer Library.
The event will take place Saturday, April 25, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Gilmer County Library’s Community Room. The library’s address is 268 Calvin Jackson Dr.
It’s possible to fall in love because of how Woods writes.
At the very least, it’s something that very often happens to her characters.
In her retirement, she has started writing novels.
Recently, she has published her first novel, “Picture You with Me.”
Woods has two more novels planned, titled “The Colors in Wind” and “Saving Ammie.”
Woods describes her books as “Heartwarming stories with a little suspense.”
As a mother of two and grandmother of five, Woods has rich life experience to write from. Her husband is her “number one proofreader.”
She writes her novels from her log home, with “two cats, a possum in the tree by the front porch, some rude racoons and a herd of deer.”
Watson, on the other hand, is very far from retirement age.
A student at Gilmer County High School, he won a prize from the Craddock Center for his first book, “Clarence the Crab.”
The book is an illustrated children’s story about a crab who learns the value of friendship and cooperation.
To complete the book, Watson did the writing and also created a series of painted illustrations.
Watson plans to write another children’s book soon.
He hopes to attend Georgia State University.
