Local Authors Forum will celebrate their work
Life experience and Gilmer County shape the work of local authors.
Several of them will be featured in the upcoming Local Authors Forum event hosted by Friends of the Gilmer Library.
The event will take place Saturday, April 25, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Gilmer County Library’s Community Room. The library’s address is 268 Calvin Jackson Dr.
Kids, cats and kindness stand out in local author Nan Flickinger’s books.
Her books include “Otis the Orchard Cat” and “Ellie J’s Apples.”
A former teacher, Flickinger’s journey to becoming an author began with an injury. After she underwent back surgery, she found she had time to write the books she had long been dreaming about.
She hopes readers enjoy her books as much as she enjoyed writing them.
Another author, Mary Encinias has written a memoir about her experience of life with brittle bone disease.
The book, titled “Living Without Bubble Wrap,” describes how she has found joy in life even while struggling with osteogenesis imperfecta, a disease that makes it easy for bones to fracture.
“My fractures were like speed bumps,” she said. “They just show me down, but do not stop me.”
Attending the Local Authors Forum is the perfect opportunity to read these books and learn more about their authors.
