Gilmer Fire and Rescue is again partnering with Faith, Hope and Charity (FHC) Recycle Store to provide free box fans to local residents who need them.
The fire department recently received its first delivery of 50 box fans from FHC, which purchased the fans from Lowe’s. More fans will be supplied when needed, noted Cheryl Worley, FHC board chair.
Fire Chief Daniel Kauffman said the fire department is issuing one fan per household at this time.
The free fan program has been well-received since it started during a sweltering summer eight years back.
Worley said the fire department gave out almost 100 fans in a recent year. Close to 500 fans have been given out since the program started.
Kauffman said Gilmer County residents can stop by Fire Station 1 at 437 Howard Simmons Road to pick up a fan anytime between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
